Frequently Asked Questions.
The British Public House has been the centre of community life for hundreds of years and although they have changed somewhat in class and nature they are still places that attract a variety of people. We've found some really special pubs that were frequented by artists and writers.
I Don't Want to Drink Alcohol.
That's absolutely fine. Although it's a pub crawl it's more about the artists that used the pubs and clubs than the booze itself.
I Want To Drink Lots.
That is also fine, although you probably won't have time for more than two or three drinks in the regular, main tour. However you may want to revisit the pubs we have been to for a more 'substantial' session! We have about three or four breaks for drinks. We start and, more importantly, end at a pub. The route is fairly compact, so it's easy to nip back to a favourite pub!
How many pubs do we visit and what do we see?
We visit about a dozen pubs and top private members clubs, but we only spend time drinking at the start, end and a few along the way. You'll see where these great minds thought, debated and drank. And you may meet a few famous writers and characters from the past too...
I'm travelling alone. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Solo traveller, male or female - you'll be made very welcome. We really are enthusiasts and pleased to welcome and share our great city with you. And we can help you out with any other plans you might have. Just drop us a line.
How big are the groups? What about the weather?
We try and keep the groups small and intimate. Like the pubs we visit. And we continue whatever the weather! So dress appropriately and a brolly may be a good idea.
Are children allowed?
Not without notice as most licensed premises in the UK will not allow under 18's. But we do have a 'coffee shop' version of the tour, for under 18's, by prior arrangement!
Who runs the tour? Do you use Blue Badge Guides?
It's run by the not-for-profit Maverick Theatre Company and presented by actors and occasionally writers too! We're enthusiasts. Some of the actors are also the rather excellent Blue Badge Guides, but they're actors first.
How do I book tickets? Can I bring a party?
