On a trail of Dylan Thomas.

On a trail of Dylan Thomas.

I had the pleasure of spending a week in Wales last month. A beautiful country and the home of my childhood holidays. Most of our time had been spent around Aberdyfi and Corris, but this time we moved a little further south and rediscovered New Quay.  And as I walked into town, I was greeted by an image of the boyo himself. Yep, New Quay has a Dylan Thomas Trail!

Dylan lived in many places and he is most generally associated with his Boathouse in Laugharne even further to the South, but he and Caitlin were regular visitors and lived in the village for a while in 1944/45. New Quay even proudly contends that they are the REAL Llareggub from 'Under Milk Wood'.

Either way, it's a lovely part of the world.  Even though I was officially on holiday, it's hard to resist Dylan!  So I grabbed my trusty recorder and managed to nab a quick chat with a rather shy gentleman in the Tourist Information Centre. I also made an impromptu i-phone video which you can see HERE (hopefully!).  I later discovered the Central Hotel, just down the road where we were staying, has a Dylan Thomas plaque on the wall and that was another of his haunts too. So I went in and had a chat with the owner and locals. Obviously I had to have a pint...!

Check out the New Quay website. It's a little out of date, but still worth a look if you are a Thomas fan, as we all are. And if we can find the funding, I'll put my recordings together as part of a podcast on the trail.

The trail stretches quite a way from New Quay. This is the Central Hotel in Llanon, a good twelve or thirteen miles from New Quay. I'm pleased to report we drank in most of the pubs and hotels on the route, as you'll hear in the podcast!

About Us

Nick Hennegan Hello. I'm Nick Hennegan and I started the London Literary Pub Crawl. Most of the blogs on here will be by me. I've always written but my first theatrical success was an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Henry V' (www.HenryVPlay.com) I founded Maverick Theatre in 1994. (www.MaverickTheatreCompany.com) This pub crawl is really more a promenade theatre performance than a tour and I'm running it with a bunch of enthusiastic local actors and writers. I love sharing my passion for the area and the artists. I also present a weekly radio show, 'Literary London' on Resonance 104.4fm - London's Arts Station and a podcast on our site. If you haven't visited us in London yet, I hope you'll come soon. Have a look at my new site, www.BohemianBritain.com. And feel free to leave comments or email me at nick @ LondonLiteraryPubCrawl.com - I reply to them all and I love to hear from you.
